Remember just a few years ago when Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams was arguably the best point guard in the game? Remember when he averaged 20 points per game? Remember when he shot 45 % from the field? Remember when he averaged 10 assists per game? What has happened?
Williams used to be one of the best in the game when it came to the point guard position, and man was he exciting to watch. He could do it all, and brought so much to the table. Now, when you take a look at his stats, there has been a tremendous decline in his numbers, yet he is still just 29 years old.
This season, Williams is averaging just 9.3 PPG, 6 APG, and 1.8 RPG, and shooting 41 % from the field and 38 % from beyond the 3-point line. In fact, Williams has reached double-digits in scoring just four times this season. Due to injuries, he has missed six games thus far this year.
Without his production, the Nets are really struggling, already with a 4-11 record to start the year.
Although it's still early in the season and he has time to turn it around, from what I've seen, I'm not sure we will ever see the athletic, fun, and exciting Deron Williams ever again.
