Announced in the Arizona Diamondbacks official Twitter account, the team has acquired reliever Addison Reed from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for infielder Matt Davidson.
The Dbacks are able to help the back end of the bullpen by adding a solid arm. Reed, who will be 25 on December 27, comes in with a 4.17 career ERA and has saved 69 games over the past two seasons. He will likely slide into the closer role on a team that saw 5 different players close out games last season.
The White Sox are able to draw in the 22 year old Matt Davidson. Considered to be the third baseman of the future for Arizona, he will likely see more opportunity for playing time on the south side of Chicago. Spending the majority of last season in Triple-A Reno, Davidson posted a .280 batting average, 17 home runs and 74 runs batted in.
With Martin Prado slated at the everyday third baseman in Arizona, there was no where to place Davidson in an everyday lineup. Both teams fill a need, and receive young players in the deal.
