Bryce Harper Needs To Shut Up And Play Baseball

We are hitting the home stretch in the MLB and teams are fighting for their post season lives at this point and one of those teams happens to be the Washington Nationals. Not to long ago Bryce Harper said that the NL East race isn't over and the Braves better watch out. Now I am not one to hate on a man's confidence but if you make a statement like that as a leader of the team you better make sure you back it up when the games really count.

Fast forward to this past series they just had with the 1st place division rival Braves and you will see that all Harper did was run his mouth because he certainly didn't produce at a high enough level for the Nationals to even pick up at least 1 win. He hit 3-10 which is good but Bryce can't be just good at this point in the year he needs to be great because this team has grossly underachieved after a great season last year and isn't even winning 50% of its games. There were times when he had a chance to come up with some big base hits that could have one games for the Nats in this past series and came up empty striking out. That can't happen at least put the ball in play.

We all know Harper and the Nats are a talented collection of players but whats talent without production. Harper is putting up solid numbers hitting 271. with 17 home runs and 38 RBI's but its crunch time for the Nats and Bryce must show why he is big time. The NL East seems to be all but over with the Nationals in 2nd place standing at 15.5 games behind the Braves for 1st place. Now the Nationals are only 9 games out of the wild card but they need to start playing consistent baseball. In other words its time for Bryce Harper to shut his mouth and just play baseball at a high level like we know he can.

What If Rick Vaughn Was Real?

Over the course of everyday I ask myself many obscure random questions and yesterday was no different. After a long tiring day I came back home and was watching some TV on the couch flipping threw my local TV listings when suddenly I saw that MLB network was showing Major League 2. Now I have seen the movie hundreds of times, the Cleveland Indians were a team full of personalities like Willie Mays Hayes, Pedro Cerrano, Jake Taylor and most notably Rick Vaughn. So I asked myself the question “How would Rick Vaughn be if he was a real baseball player in the MLB and not just some fictitious character”? So I thought about it and I decided to take it to a blog post, so here it is my Rick Vaughn MLB breakdown…..If he were real.

The Ballplayer

Rick Vaughn by Charlie Sheen was a pitcher and he embodies the essence of who Sheen is and that’s rough around the edges, hardcore, and plays by his own rules. Rick Vaughn was a high velocity pitcher in Major League 1 he was known for his control problems but people knew he had an arm on him and could throw heat with the best of him. So as a starter Rick Vaughn in real life would be a spectacle to watch. He is not afraid to challenge you inside outside and if you piss him off he will hit you with a pitch and doesn’t mind getting ejected this guy played in the California Penal League for Christ sakes.

In Major League 2 after losing some velocity on his fastball he was moved to the bullpen as a closer. When he was the closer he could throw as much gas as he wanted. So Vaughn sounds kind of like John Smoltz if you ask me. This guy if real would have John Smoltz like stuff but with a John Rocker personality.

The Marketing Tool

If you have seen anyone of the “Major League” movies then you would know the Rick Vaughn comes out to The Troggs-Wild Thing. With that song as his trade mark music marketing opportunities for Vaughn would be endless. Not to mention that hair do and the specs glasses he wears. Rick Vaughn as a marketing tool would be unlike anything we have ever seen before because not only did he have the edgy side to him like in Major League 1 but he also had that rich clean cut image in Major League 2 when money got to his head. So Rick Vaughn in interviews and commercials would be as unpredictable as lotto numbers.

Final Thoughts

So if real what would Rick Vaughn bring to Major League Baseball? He would bring lots and lots of publicity. The MLB lacks the star power of the 90’s and Vaughn would be the perfect guy to push the barriers of baseball super stardom and bring baseball the mass appeal it so desperately deserves at this present moment. Vaughn would have a long Major League Career he would be up and down but this guy would be a front line starter and the person you want to give the ball to with the game on the line. Fans would love him, media would embrace him and baseball would benefit from him……If only John Rocker had panned out.

The Day I Knew Baseball Season Would Suck

Before Baseball season even began As a Marlins fan I knew I got dealt with a pretty bad hand with our 3rd firesale in franchise history (Thanks Pinhead Jeffery Loria and Midget Lucky Charms wannabe David Sampson) . I knew we would lack the talent to match up with our division Rivals such as the Nats, Phillies, Braves. I knew all of that but something happened to me where I knew that this season woule be awful, let me explain.

I went to the Dollar Store after getting a fresh much needed haircut last Sunday to purchase some baseball cards. I purchased 4 Packs of Topps 2013 and when opening the packs I was giddy with excitement to have new cards. I am Never one to believe in Omans or signs but when going through my very 1st pack of Topps 2013 this year I came across these 2 cards back to back

Yes that is Josh Johnson and Adeiny Hechavarria! I saw this and thought that the baseball gods were playing some sick mind game with my head to put those two cards in the same pack right next to each other.

If you Don’t know then let me inform you those two players are related because of that big trade that took place between the Marlins and the Bluejays. It sent them one of my favorite pitchers, Jose Reyes, Emilio Bonifacio and Mark Buehrle a for basically a bunch of young minor league players.

Seeing this cards in the same pack just let me know what thousands upon Millions already know which is that the Miami Marlins will suck this year.
