On January 12th 2000 tragedy struck the Charlotte Hornets as Bobby Phills died in a car crash after a practice at the Charlotte Colisiuem. Phills was a team leader and someone who made everyone proud to say they were a fan of the Charlotte Hornets. Toughness, Intensity, and playing the game the right way was what Bobby Phills brought to the table and we should never forget that. Phills averaged 11 Points 3.1 Rebounds 2.7 Assists and 1.3 Steals on his career.
The
Charlotte Hornets name change will take place as of next season but
the history, records and retired jerseys will stay with the NewOrleans Pelicans franchise. The Hornets not to long afterr his death
in Charlotte retired his #13 to the rafters. The only problem is that
his jersey hangs from the rafters at the New Orleans Arena and thats
not right because the fans of that team don't really understand the
significance of that jersey and what it means.
So
what Bring Back The Buzz (a Charlotte Hornets fan group) has started
is a petition to get that jersey back to the rafters in Charlotte at
Time Warner Cable Arena. You can help the cause by signing the
petition down below.
