Prior
to the beginning of last season starting the Bobcats decided to take
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist with the #2 overall pick out of Kentucky. He
didn't quite live up to the expectation of many people and the
criticism on his rather awkward shooting motion has increased
exponentially.
Last
season the former national champion averaged 9 points 5.8 rebounds
and 1.5 assists on 45 % shooting in 26 minutes of play. For all of
the criticism people put on his jump shot he did show many positives
last season such as his ball handling which created lots of fast
breaks. Also his rebounding,Defensive intensity and fearlessness were
all on display. His dunk on Greg Monroe is the best highlight to
define who MKG is as a player at this point in his career.
As
we head into this season with a much improved Charlotte roster
Kidd-Gilchrist remains one of the x-factors for not just this season
but for
this
franchise moving forward. At
just 20 years of age this is a guy who has a passion for the game and
works as hard as anybody else in the gym. He is the kind of player
that teams need on the roster to compete at a high level night in and
night out.
Last
month at media day I had the privilege of interviewing the St.Patrick
High School great as he discussed the upcoming season, Confidence,
His Dunk on Greg Monroe and much more.
