As it is known, the Patriots have a weak receiving corps, especially since Danny Amendola is out with an injury and Star TE Rob Gronkowski is still on the shelf from last season. Even with Amendola, the Patriots still need help as Julian Edelman isn't going to cut it and Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins aren't surefire, reliable starters at this point in their respective careers. Enter in Cecil Shorts and the Patriots have got back there high-power offence with Amendola and Gronk coming back from injury in these up-and-coming weeks.
Cecil Shorts is the most underrated Wide Receiver in the NFL, in my opinion. Shorts is a good route runner with amazing hands, just watch right here, and has 4.5 second 40-yard dash speed, evident in his 80-yard TD reception against the Colts. He's only 25 and been in the NFL for 3 seasons and has already had a season where he caught 55 passes for 979 yards and 7 TD receptions in ONLY 14 games and out of those 14 games, he started 9 of them. That season was the 2012-13 season, pretty recent. Not to mention that he's done that with Blaine Gabbert and/or Chad Henne at the helm. Just imagine what he could do with a QB like Tom Brady throwing passes to him. He is easily a 1,200+ yard receiver with 6+ TD receptions each season.
Cecil Shorts is just entering his prime and the Patriots would be dumb, not to try and trade for him. The only thing that might stop this trade is that the Jaguars might not want to trade him since he's one of the only reliable pieces on the offence that they have but most likely they would trade him since they're in rebuilding mode, making Shorts expendable. What the Patriots have to offer to the Jaguars is either Aaron Dobson or Kenbrell Thompkins, along with a 4th-6th round pick. That would be the most fair trade possible, in my opinion. With Cecil Shorts, the Patriots could easily continue their dynasty as both their receivers, Danny Amendola and Shorts himself, have many good seasons left in their careers and not to mention, Rob Gronkowski, who could end being the best Tight End in NFL History, if everything goes alright. I think the Patriots should target Cecil Shorts. What do you think?
