The Angels, Diamondbacks, and White Sox have agreed to a three-team trade that would send Mark Trumbo to the Diamondbacks, Adam Eaton to the White Sox and pitchers Hector Santiago and Tyler Skaggs to the Angels. Arizona will also receive 2 players to be named later.
This trade helps all three teams with their needs
1) Why it helps the Angels?
The Angels finished 11th in the American League in Earned Run Average with a 4.23. So its safe to say they need pitching and they need it now. With injuries to Jered Weaver, Tommy Hanson and recently signed royal Jason Vargas they were hurt on starting pitchers. So with the accusations of Tyler Skaggs and Hector Santiago they get good pitchers who are young, Santiago being 25, turning 26 on December 16th and Skaggs being 22. Plus with Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton and Mike Trout they could afford to give away Trumbo.
2) Why it helps the Diamondbacks?
The Diamondbacks finished 12th in home runs last season with 130. Trumbo would be slotted in at Left Field next season, last year Diamondback Left Fielders hit 14 home runs. Last season Trumbo hit 30 home runs. So this is a big power upgrade and more importantly, this provides Paul Goldschmidt with protection. Most likely Trumbo would hit third and Goldy 4th. Expect Goldschmidt's stats to increase with Trumbo as his protector. ( Arizona also will receive 2 players to be names later)
3) Why it helps the White Sox?
Lets face it White Sox fans, they aren't going to be a playoff team for at least 4,5 years. So this trade effects their future and their attempt to rebuild the franchise around star pitcher Chris Sale. The White Sox get and every day center fielder with a lot of potential. All though he has a small sample size (88 games) this 25 year old has great upside and could pan out big for this rebuilding franchise. Expect Eaton slotted at the every day CF next season in Chicago as they try and give this youngster the time he deserves.
