5 Players To Watch In The 2013 MLB All-Star Game

It's once again that time of year, mid summer classic time as the MLB's elite talents square off in the All-Star game. Everybody regardless of what team they play for is a tremendous talent but some guys might be a bit overlooked so here are a few guys you guys will need to watch out for in this years All-Star game.

#5 Adam Jones (Baltimore Orioles)

Although Adam Jones is starting in center field once again for the American league he may be overshadowed by guys like Miguel Cabrera and his teammate Chris Davis. Jones is one exciting player and a 5 tool one at that he has the ability to make some Tori Hunter type plays in the all-star game if given the chance. He is having a good season thus far for a good Baltimore team. Don't sleep on Adam Jones if you watch the All- Star game.

#4 Jason Grilli (Pittsburgh Pirates)

If you aren't to familiar with the national league leading Pittsburgh Pirates and why they have the best record then you will quickly find out in the All-Star game. Jason Grilli the Pirates closer has been nothing short of a shutdown closer converting on 28 of his 29 save opportunity’s while collecting a 2.15 ERA. In the game of baseball you need a reliable guy who will get you those very tough last 3 outs and Grilli has been doing that at a high clip for the Pirates this year. Expect him to challenge any and all hitters who face him.

#3 Paul Goldschmidt (Arizona Diamondbacks)

The Arizona Diamondbacks are playing plus 500 baseball and a big reason for that is because of young slugger Paul Goldschmidt. Goldschmidt has tremendous power and might be in the homerun derby but god forbid he get a hold of any type of pitch he can drive or you will see why he has 21 home runs and 73 RBI's with a 305. batting average. For fans who don't know about the young first baseman it will be good for them to watch.

#2 Jose Fernandez (Miami Marlins)

If there was one word to describe Jose Fernandez's stuff its “Electric”, this guy is a rookie sensation but not many people are paying attention due to the Marlins record. He is top 10 among all pitchers in ERA and hitters are only hitting 193. against him. Who ever he faces will get challenged and if they come out whiffing don't be surprised.

#1 Mariano Rivera (New York Yankees)

It's his last of many All-Star games and baseball as well as the midsummer classic will definitely miss Mo- The greatest closer baseball has ever seen.

It's Time For Some Baseball

Now that basketball season is over and I don't have to focus on the media circus that is the Miami Heat the blog will now be changing its focus to baseball. I will still write things about basketball with the draft and summer league coming out but it's time to focus on Americas past time the way I should be. Outside of the Marlins who I follow because they are my team I was very oblivious to most things going on in the MLB this season. I'm very happy my Marlins are playing better baseball winning 5 out of their last 8 against the Cardinals,D-Backs and Giants.

I'm excited to see if Miguel Cabrera can repeat and win the triple crown again as he currently leads in the batting average and RBI categories he is still chasing Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis who has 27 homeruns to Cabrera's 20. I think Miggy who is one of the most consistent hitters we have ever seen in baseball history will be right there when it's all said and done for the repeat.

I'm definitely excited to see if Giancarlo Stanton will be in the home run derby this season. As most baseball fans know his batting practices alone are a homerun derby and he posses once in a life time power that most people aren't really accustom to seeing so him at an event like the homerun derby would be nothing but a treat for the fans of the MLB.

Of course I will still have my card posts but I'm going to incorporate other pieces of exclusive memorabilia that I feel would be cool to share with you guys. So far all my guys here who collect baseball memorabilia /Cards and all that good stuff you will love all the stuff coming up.

How Dontrelle Willis should be remembered

Not too long ago former Florida Marlins all-star pitcher and Fan favorite Dontrelle Willis retired from the game of baseball. Willis is known for his high leg kick delivery he learned growing up in Alameda, California. Willis is most remembered for his midseason run he had as a 21 year old young pup going 14-6 his rookie season and winning the rookie of the year en route to helping the Marlins 2nd world series title. 2005 saw the D-train go an impressive 22-10 and earn cy young runner up. After that season he was never the same pitcher again he failed to throw strikes with any consistency. After a few average seasons in Florida Willis was dealt to the Detroit Tigers along with fellow team mate Miguel Cabrera. From 2008-2011 Willis only recorded 4 wins and after bouncing around with the Tigers, D-backs, Reds, Phillies, Orioles Dontrelle decided to hang it up and retire via Twitter saying “im deeply thankful for everything the game has done for me and I will always remember the great people I met along the way #mlb”. Now a lot of people what will D-trains legacy be in the game of baseball? Some will look at it from the negative approach so from a positive one. I am gonna look at D-trains legacy as a positive one a 2 time all-star,20 game winner and a guy who was a huge part of the Marlins 2nd world championship. Above all that though I think people should look at Dontrelle willis and say that he played with a passion of a man but joy of a kid all at the same time. He played the game hard everyday gave you all he could ran the bases hard and had an infectious energy that rubbed off on teamates. I grew up going to Pro player stadium watching the man pitch so maybe im biased but when I would sit there in my cheap seats and watch him pitch he was always worth the price of admission. I have followed the Marlins since I was 4 years old and I have never seen a connection from player to fans like I saw With Dontrelle Willis and Marlins fns,so while many people will lable him a bust I will remember him for what he is a champion, hard worker, and great person and will continue to rock the black #35 jersey at marlins park. CONGRATS D-train on a good career thanks for the memories!!!!!!!
