The Buffalo Sabres have traded Thomas Vanek to the New York Islanders in exchange for Matt Moulson, the Islanders' first-round pick in 2014 and a 2015 second-round pick.
Vanek has 9 points (4 goals, 5 assists) through 13 games so far this season. The 29 year old finished last year with 41 points in 38 games and has accumulated nearly 500 points through his career.
Matt Moulson, on the other hand, has broken out these last three years, scoring 30+ goals in each of the last three seasons.
This trade makes it official, the Sabres have given up on this horrendous season. They are dead last in the NHL and no one would be surprised to see more trades coming (*cough* Ryan Miller *cough*). They are obviously looking to rebuild and have begun well. Moulson, along with the two draft picks are a great exchange for Vanek.
The Islanders have taken another step forward through this trade. They have gained a star player to play alongside John Tavares, and continue to slowly become better and better.
All-in-all, this is a great trade for both teams, but I believe the Sabres may have won it. Comment below and let me know what you think.
