WWE Supporting Gay Rights?

The WWE is all-in when it comes to dramatic shows, but Monday nights showing was one of the weirdest plot lines I have ever witnessed. From sexual jokes to marriages, the show was swirling for all three hours and five minutes.

The night started off with news from over the weekend, that WWE Diva Brie Bella and Superstar phenom Daniel Bryan are now engaged. With all congratulations aside, how have they been dating for 2 1/2 years if Bryan was dating AJ Lee last year? The WWE never has it's facts straight, reality or fiction.

Later in the night, after seeing a ton of action from Paul Heyman, Ryback, and Curtis Axel, it seemed that a proposal was coming from Heyman towards.. Ryback?!

Blowing something out of proportion is in the WWE's blood, so I didn't expect much. After five minutes of jibber-jabber, Heyman kept calling Ryback a beautiful man, and something needs to become "committed to" and "become official". Paul freakin' Heyman grabbed Ryback's giant hand, got down on one knee and said, "Ryback.. will you become a Paul Heyman kind of guy?" That was that. We didn't have time to get an answer because CM Punk interrupted an extremely awkward hand-holding in the ring, but that leads me to the point of this article.

It does appear that the writers of World Wrestling Entertainment are showing that they support the big topic of gay marriage. This is obviously a very good move by the company, boosting it's ratings and having an opinion toward the topic, but, what if some of it's viewers are against it? Will they go more into the situation or leave it at that? So many unanswered questions, that you nor I have the answer to.

  1. WWF/E has been doing a lot over the years in regard to guy athletes. Maybe not always positive (Adrian Adonis?), but for a company owned by some pretty right wing people, they have been usually on the left side of center in LGBT issues.

That being said, I think the whole Heyman/Ryback schtick was more a joke playing off the engagement than anything.

Also, don't forget that Steph and Hunter were dating during the storyline of Steph dating and marrying Test.

  2. I always knew Paul Heyman was weird but sheesh.
